Steven M. Stastny



Steve Stastny has been engaged in the active practice of law for nearly twenty-five years.  Much of his practice has been concentrated in the field of employment law and personal injury both in and outside of the workplace. 


In addition to a robust employment law counseling practice, Steve has broad litigation experience with respect to all federal and state discrimination, retaliation, harassment and leave statutes as well as statutory and Alabama common law "personal injury" claims such as negligence, assault and battery, invasion of privacy, libel and slander, outrage/intentional infliction of emotional distress, workers' compensation and co-employee claims and other injury claims.  Steve has litigated overtime claims arising under the Fair Labor Standards Act both as collective and individual claims.  He has handled literally hundreds of cases in Alabama's federal and state courts.


Steve is licensed to practice law in Alabama and Louisiana and is admitted to all three federal districts in Alabama as well as the Eastern and Middle Districts of Louisiana.  He is also admitted to the Fifth and Eleventh U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal.


Steve received his B.A. from Columbia University in 1988 and J.D. (law degree) from Tulane Law School in 1991. While at Tulane, Steve served as a Senior Teaching Fellow and garnered two American Jurisprudence  "book awards" for obtaining the highest exam scores  in Civil Procedure and Common Law Property.  Steve was also published in his capacity as the Quantum and Collision Survey Editor of the internationally subscribed Tulane Maritime Law Journal.


Steve received the highest peer review rating -- AV -- in the Martindale Hubbell legal directory in 2000 and was first listed in Best Lawyers in America in 2006.


In the community, Steve is a board member of the Alabama Wildlife Center at Oak Mountain State Park and is a trustee of the Kappa Delta Rho Foundation.


Steve and his wife, the former Lauren Olvey, live in Vestavia Hills with their two sons, John Michael and Ross.  The family belongs to St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church.
